This is a trailer from the Eastenders spin off 'E20', this represents a similar product to our targeted outcome for our soap trailer, mainly due to the age of the characters in  the show being in the 'teens'. A series like this enables us to gather idea's for our soap trailer, the characters, setting and storylines.

This trailer of the channel 4 sitcom of The Inbetweeners was also an inspiration towards my soap trailer, it still ties in with the 'school/college' theme i was following, yet the inbetweeners appeals more to an older target audience, being more of a comedy rather than a drama.

Screen Shot Analysis

Once i had chosen a direction of my soap trailer, i produced secondary research using Waterloo Road, this in some ways is a similar genre of the direction my soap trailer was going down. I used a few screen shots to describe and analyse the shots frequently used in the drama.

Audience Research

Before i produced a trailer for a new soap, i chose to use a questionnaire, enabling me to see what it is people look for in a soap. I did this by seeing what soap was the most popular among the people i asked, the estimated age range of those most likely to watch and the influences on what TV programmes you watch. This gave me an insight into what the public want, allowing me to produce a new up and coming soap to appear on the BBC that is appropriate for my target audience.

18 Second Trailer

Here we produced a short 18second preliminary snippet of an existing soap. We chose to replicate a scene from Waterloo road as we felt this was the direction we were aiming for our product to be like. Doing this preliminary task enabled us as a group to become familiar with the camera's that we would be using and using programmes such as Adobe Premiere as it was new to us all. We experimented with multiple shot angles here, such as over the shoulder. We filmed with 2 camera's (one on tripod and another hand held) this allowed us to vary the shots in the task, using what worked better. We found this useful and carried this through to our actual soap trailer.

Photographs Of Setting

These are a few images of possible places where our soap trailer will be filmed. We are using Aquinas College as the main setting for our trailer as it suits the theme of our soap.
The photo's show places such as the canteen and numerous corridors where scenes for out trailer would take place.

 

 

Preliminary Task Script

In order to produce our preliminary task of a short experiment of filming a scene from a soap we had to produce a short script. We gathered our script from an existing Waterloo Road episode in which there is a conversation between two of the teachers. We felt this was a good scene to enable us to practice filming as there were numerous shot types throughout.
